Hip-e teen computer
Recognizing the influence teens have over the purchases that parents make on their behalf, an enterprising company has introduced the Hip-e computer. Sporting customizable color skins, the computer has a decent feature set. A 17″ LCD screen is coupled with a dock that includes a wireless keyboard and mouse, and the dock has slots to plug in the MP3 player and cell phone the company also offers. There’s an 8 in 1 card reader built into the dock and a DVD/CD combo drive included. It’s a little expensive at $1699 but it’s a one stop purchase for parents who want to give a “cool” computer to their child.Hip-e also has a notebook computer and matching electronic gizmos on their web site.

Sorry for the bad news but it cost $1,699 for the basics of the computer(screen, keyboard,etc ), but it cost extra to get the things that make the computer cool( speaker, cell phone,etc.)check at http://www.hip-e.com to see for yourselves.

Their web site just states “coming soon” with no specs nor information about pricing.
The website does state the prices you have to go to the “buy it ” button to see the prices. The website does not say coming soon because it has all of the information on the computer.It even has an demo!

I think that the computer is super nifty, but I’m somewhat concerned about the price. I’m a bargain hunter, but I’m also very gadget oriented, so, you can imagine my predicament! I’m just wondering if there’s a discount or if there’s some way I could get it cheaper?

The hip-e looks like a wannabe imac to me! It is a really neat idea and a fairly good computer, judging from the specs. But, it has a glossy screen, and seems cheaply made. I think it would be cool to try out, but I am sure it is another fad. It will die out before it gets too prosperous. Plus, the only people who can talk to each other on the cell phones will be people will the reach me phones. It does not have a service provider such as sprint or cingular etc., or at leat i did not see one. If this product does do well Microsoft will end up buying it out anyway. Like i said i think it is a great idea, but I wouldn’t buy one. At least with Mac or Windows you know what you are getting. I would wait until they got more popular and you can accually see what they can do before you buy.
I understand that this computer has alot of stuff to it,but all that money we have to pay and half that stuff dont even come with the computer. I was brought up to know money dont grow on trees. After i buy the computer im not going to be able too aford any of the material that makes the computer cool. This is crazy.

Lets just hope they market this one the right way. It could turn out to be a really great idea but unfortunately, a lot of great ideas didnt get off the launching pad because of people who critisized it without trying it(and then came the people who followed the critics blindly). I’m not gonna say much because I haven’t even done more than look at the darn thing, but i think if they want to make this thing get big they should talk about how flexible it is. Catherine mentioned its an “imac wannabe” and last time I checked, imacs were pretty darn flexible when it came to digital cameras, etc… Also, Imacs don’t really break that easily so lets hope if this is indeed an imac wannabe that it will atleast be durable…that might come in handy considering they’re trying to get parents to buy it for their kids.

Pretty nice, 17in. Wide Screen view and yes it is expensive, but just liek any new product that comes out on market. Of course prices will drop, but you will have to wait until they are old news…
Does it come in pink?
I think that the computer, cell phone, and all of the rest of the accessories are very good and affordable but they require a credit card to purchase and everyone does not have a credit card. Why do you need a credit card i mean damn they are going to get their money. The computer and cell hone are suppossed to be for kids and most kids don’t have a credit card so THINK ABOUT IT!!!
A lot of people are saying it’s too expensive. It is expensive, but what you are mostly paying for is the space saving design.

I got a hip-e and they r pretty good but im really mad that i got one. the only reason that i did was cauz it came in pink. does anybody kno of any laptops that come in pink?
Can ANYONE tell me where I can get a copy of the sound card drivers for the Hip-E Node?!?!??! Please!!! I had to wipe and install XP Media Center, and I can’t get the sound working!!!

I THINK THE hip-e looks friggin awsome, I mean for the pple who have an imac or an ibook, those computers suck, I hate them they always have problems, and accordin to the specs the computer has everything a teen realy needs, it kindav sounds to good to be true, and if the computer realy does cost that much then, whoevers parents can buy that for there child is realy lucky, cause that is alot just for a computer if you noe wut im sayin.

I think that this is pretty cool, but I’m always asking for this and that for my birthday and christmas. I mean whats it really worth to you? I don’t understand. I think that this computer is really alsome looking but buy the feed back this has been geting I would rather just get a dell or imac or somthing. If I were you guys selling these things I WOULD lower the price, so people can actually aford this stuff.And another thing if they are out of busines they need to stop puting there fricken adds in alloy!!!!!!

I think they should lower the prices and keep selling them. even thought it comes with alot of extra things like a play me mp3 player and a cell phone. they should just make those things as a seperate order so you can just buy the computer. i know alot of people that one, including me so keep on selling them i think they are the coolest thing to ever hit the teenage market.
1st u need to lower ur prices and ya i have had 1 before there pretty cool but not for that price u get alot of virces on them very easlly but lower the price and get the website working!
OK. I would really like to have one but ,yes I agree they are waaaaaaay to expen$ive. Especially since they are competeing with Dell and IMAC. Dells are really good and not that expensive and, IMACs are super awesome looking! Just in case you want to know, I read a thing that said that Best Buy is ordering a bunch but they are really expensive to ship. I guess I’ll just have to be content because I already have a DVD player, CD player and New TV. Oh well!

Available in the UK at date of writing from SterlingXS. Comes with recovery disk, which may be handy since a couple of things have stopped working since I upgraded from XP Home to Pro. At GBP375 it’s a fun box for basic stuff.

Interestingly…I got my Hip e node at a charity sale with the Houston Chronicle for $400…they sent it to the Paper to be reviewed. Then went out of business. It is well made. I’ve watched Tv while playing online poker for months with out trouble. After a voltage spike at house…the chipset fan started making noise. I’m having trouble finding a new one. It has a unigue design. MP3 player works nice…remote for TV tuner….nice….wireless keyboard and mouse….nice. I feel lucky to have it… Remenber…..G W Bush is evil.

I think that they will some time sell these I would buy on but i got to beg my mom to get me one. I’m sure she would give in after a few weeks. If they sold them it would be better if they put the price down so more can buy have a better experence as a teen(the homework thing would be cool)
I think this is a FANTASIC computer! But i didnt pay that much money for my dell laptop and it has just about the same compatiblity of a Hip-e. I think that the price should be lowered..then i think I might purchase for my self!

I have had to do a reinstall of xp and was wondering if there is any drivers on the internet anywhere or if there is a way of copying the drivers from someone elses computer.

http://www.lumaco.co.uk have just repaired a HIP-E Node PC and they have put the drivers onto their website
