Toshiba ships Perpendicular disk drive

Toshiba has announced production deliveries of their first 1.8 inch hard drive using perpendicular recording technology that packs 40 GB of storage on a single platter drive.  They also stated a dual-platter model will ship later this quarter with 80 GB of storage capacity.  Perpendicular recording has been touted as the best way to pack higher storage capacities in smaller disk drives.
