Intel Apple MacBooks available

MacbookAs expected, the Intel chips found their way into the Apple MacBooks. The 13.3-inch widescreen notebooks are now available with 1.83 GHz or 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo processors and weigh in at 5.2 pounds. Similar to the MacBook Pro notebooks, benchmark testing shows more than a 5x increase in performance over similarly configured G4-equipped Apple notebook. I’ve yet to own an Apple, but at a starting price of $1,099, I’m tempted; the lack of Tablet PC capabilities is the kicker. Here’s the "at a glance specs" directly from Apple:

  • 1.83GHz or 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo
  • 13.3-inch (diagonal) TFT glossy widescreen display
  • Apple Remote with Front Row
  • Up to 2GB memory(3)
  • Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
  • Slot-loading optical drive
  • Up to 120GB hard drive(3)
  • Built-in 54-Mbps 802.11g AirPort Extreme wireless
  • Analog and digital audio in and out
  • FireWire 400 and USB 2.0 ports
  • iLife ’06, Mac OS X Tiger

  • Yet another reason why the blogosphere is right to be complaining about the high UMPC prices! For the same $1,099 that the Q1 cost, someone could get a new 13.3″ Macbook!

Owning an apple laptop isn’t that big! Unlike what most people will “preach”, apple computers can only allow you to do what the person behind it has the imagination to do. If you’re an idot, an apple computer won’t win you a noble prize!
