So whenever someone anounces a new device and how much it will cost, should I just add 33% to get the real price? I wonder how much the Sony UX50 is really going to cost.

Here’s my take on the wireless stuff..

They originally told us $1500 (and then later upped it to $2000) for the DualCor with wireless.

Now they claim that “number of agencies/ companies that have placed orders for the cPC insisted there be no radios for security reasons in the field.”

Okay, plausible. If this is the case however, and you’re now cutting the wireless stuff out.. DROP THE PRICE.

Removing the wireless for security reasons and then leaving the price the same (and higher than originally announced) removes credibility, IMO.

I think the UMPC’s are gonna kill this just like the OQO. I’m not huge fan of the “UMPC is a digital lifestyle device” marketing but at least “UMPC’s are mini-tablets that cost less” is a compelling buy. Not for me personally at the thousand dollar price point, but I can see a lot of markets where it works.

I cant see where a UMPC + Windows Mobile phone doesnt beat the pants off of a dualcore device, for less money. I’m all for people trying new things and new devices but this one just doesnt seem compelling.

RE: DualCor: You know, this radio issue (BT, EVDO, WIFI) has pushed me one step back from the cash-register (my wallet was already open). Expectations are a powerful thing and gosh, I just expected more built-in communications. I mean, personally, I was willing to ante-up major bucks for the device I believed they were going to produce. From a real-world perspective, I could happily handle swapping EVDO and WIFI cards, since my day is nearly split by WIFI at home and EVDO during the day (assuming it’s really that easy, and not actually a crash-zone twice/day). I only use BT for linking to my GPS Garmin 10 and hot-sync’g my Treo (which, I’d continue to need to do, since the DualCor isn’t a cellphone (like they said it would be)).

It’s so close to the “grail”. There’s so much innovation to appreciate, and yet just enough frustration to keep me looking. We power-users are on the cusp of real convenience, and I believed DualCor was going to get the checkered flag, but now I can’t say that for sure.

I know I sound like a spoiled child, but I can’t be the only one ready to fire off north of $2,000.00 for this all-in-one device! Come on, DualCor…at least throw in the BT!

“James, I’m thinking that you and Dave were instrumental in getting that CF wifi card shipped with the Dualcor” –Yes, even though it was never claimed it would not be included and DualCor specifically stated the cPC would use a CF card for wifi, I’m sure James and Dave were “instrumental” in putting the card in the box. Give me a break.

My apologies for the attitude, but why is it, even after this news, everyone else still assumes DualCor is incompetent? Like they didn’t think to include the wifi card they intend to be used. Or they might have forgetten to include drivers for both Mobile and XP in their Mobile/XP hybrid. Why am I odd-man-out for assuming they thought about stuff like this?

My only concern is whether the unprecedented feat of Mobile/XP integration will work. If they’re smart enough to get this done, they’re smart enough to make everything else work. If not, they wouldn’t have anything to put in the boxes anyway.

??? So WiFi nor GPRS/EDGE is preinstalled on device, but we need to use CF cards? I thought it would have windows mobile phone + xp on one machine. Whats good to have windows mobile if we cant use it as a phone? And no bluetooth as well?? I think I am going to sony ux.

Sorry, but DualCor is definitely part of the Gang That Can’t Shoot Straight. No disrespect intended to DC, but he is only an advisor, and therefore not in direct control of this company.

Whoever is in direct control of DualCor couldn’t manage a LemonAde Stand.

DualCor would do well to put DC and JK in charge.

I too was highly dissapointed to hear that wireless was not included- especially bluetooth (at least then you could use a phoen as a modem)-

They mentioned EVDO compact flash- so, is there something in the works from Sprint and Verizon that only Dualcor knows about?

Cool! James, I’m thinking that you and Dave were instrumental in getting that CF wifi card shipped with the Dualcor I’m just stoked at all the handheld computers that are coming out now. Shame OQO didn’t see it coming and did some creative pricing to get more of the market (I love a bargain!) – now they have to contend with handheld computers with Intel processors. Love your work guys.
