Skype security flaw- better update now

Skype logoZDNet is reporting of a security flaw in Skype that allows attackers to construct a Skype hyperlink that when clicked sends a file to the Skype user’s computer.  Skype published a security alert late last week and have released an updated version of the popular Internet telephone program.  They are recommending all Skype users update to version 2.5.0.82 to plug this security hole.  If I’m not mistaken, isn’t this a beta version?

  • Thanks for the heads-up. My copy of Skype reported that it needed an update, but following the Check for Update procedure I got a download that didn’t change the version number. This got me a little worried that something fishy was going on. After seeing the blog item here I did a fresh download and got the new version.
