Marvell buys Intel’s declining mobile chip unit
Has the Intel XScale processor seen better days in the past? Intel must think so as they sold their communications and application processor division to Marvell for $600 million. It’s no secret that while Intel pushed heavy into mobile chip processors in the last 10 years, they’re facing stiff competition with AMD who might be grabbing a part of the UMPC chip market. Add the fact that consumers want faster, cheaper and more powerful full-fledged Intel CPUs and you’ve got a recipe for a sale.
Some of the better known chips that will now come from Marvell include:
- PXA9xx used in Blackberry devices
- PXA27x used in Windows Mobile devices

I’ve been trying think why you would want to put a microchip into a comic and I can’t think of anything.
Actually, I think Robin Williams has one implanted. Oh wait…you meant a comic BOOK. My bad.
Does this mean that instead of X-scale processors we will now get X-men-scale processors?
I await the increased chip abilities with interest.
