ActiveSync 4.2 officially released: which WM versions are supported?
If you have a Windows Mobile device you might consider upgrading ActiveSync to the latest version: Microsoft just released ActiveSync 4.2 and you can download it here. Among the fixes and enhancements:

Proxy/DTPT interaction Improvements: Improved auto configuration of device Connection Manager settings when desktop has no proxy path to the internet.

Partnership improvements: Better resolution of multiple devices with the same name syncing with the same desktop

Connectivity Improvements: Better handling of VPN clients (resolve unbinding of protocols from our RNDIS adapter). New auto detection of connectivity failure with user diagnostic alerts
The system requirements state that this version of ActiveSync works with every mobile OS from Pocket PC 2002 on up, but I’m not so sure about that one. Regardless, this should certainly work with Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC and Smartphone editions.

I have been using the beta of activesync 4.2 with an Axim x51v for awhile. Yesterday I decided to dig up my old Compaq H3760 which uses Pocket Pc 2002. I hooked it up to my computer and activesync 4.2 beta worked wonderfully to my surprise.
Nice to see MS documenting the changes. I went ahead and installed and after a cursory look it seems to be working fine with my 6700.
Works fine with my WM2003 Orange SPV as well.
It works from WM2002 to WM2005. It is however, not recommended for other WM OS user to upgrade unless you’re using WM2005.
I think Blue Tooth should be re-named to Rotten Tooth. Syncs with Blue Tooth are still vague and rather a trial to the user.

I just upgraded ActiveSync from 3.8 to 4.2. But now it’s treating my Dell Axim X30 (PPC 2003SE) like a Guest. I’m wondering if there’s a way to establish a partnership with it, even if it’s an older device?
