Wifipen_smallUltra-portable PCs make great WiFi hotspot finders but for those of you with large notebooks you don’t want to whip that puppy out to see if you can find a little WiFi love.  The WiFi Pen aims to address that by packing a WiFi hotspot detector in a regular ballpoint pen.  $19.

Easily detect if you are in a Hot Zone. By pushing the button on the barrel Green/Yellow/Red LED’s will light to detect the strength of WiFi signal. Detects to within an area of 50 feet. Also includes white LED light beam at top and twist-open pen. This item is available in limited quantity for a limited time only.

  • Seems rather useless without an indicator that tells the user whether it’s an open or protected network, given the plethora of WiFi signals around these days. I got a freebee WiFi detector at some trade show a while ago and while it’s in my backpack with lots of other gizmos, I have never actually used it for that very reason.

  • These days, in certain places, this thing could be considered a burglar’s tool.
