Apple putting Merom in MacBooks and MacBook Pros next month
If you want to see where the computer industry is going, you often have to watch the computer component manufacturers, and that’s just what DigiTimes did. AsusTek and Quanta both produce Apple notebooks and sources appear to have just revealed that September is the month for 64-bit Merom CPUs in the MacBook and MacBook Pro line. Hard to say if consumers will see the more new Core 2 Duo MacBooks in September or if it will take another month to get enough units ready at the Apple store, but clearly, the new Merom-based Apple notebooks are just around the corner.

Now that the MacBooks are using Intel processors, has anyone gotten the idea to try and put a touchscreen or tablet on one and install XP Tablet PC Edition?
I hear the Macs run Windows a lot faster than most PCs… might be interesting to see a fast tablet
To fury: can’t do that. Tablet PC Edition isn’t just XP Pro on drugs. It has a special set of hardware requirements that the computer has to meet (for example, there’s a requirement for a hardware key mapped to CTRL-ALT-Delete.)
Would be nice, but no such luck.
The only reason MacBook Pro’s were faster at running than other laptops at running windows was because they were one of the few manufacturers with the Core2 proc in their laptops at the time. A lot has changed since The MacBook Pro rolled out and I doubt that is still a true statement. The MBP would make a pretty cruddy tablet as the screen doesn’t flip around so you can hold it in the tablet fashion…
Tablets are usually slower because they use Intel’s ULV (Ultra Low Voltage) processors. The clock speed tends to be significantly slower than the normal mobile procs… but it actually gives you the battery life you need for a Tablet application. I guess I haven’t dealt with tablets in day to day use but I thought a 1 – 1.5GHZ pentum M would be fast enough to run OneNote… is that not so?

Actually, no, you’re wrong. Core2 hasn’t reached the MB/MBP range yet, as you’ll notice from this article, which is actually stating that Merom (codename for Core2) may go in the machines this month. And nothing’s really changed – show me a dual core laptop running faster than a 2.16Ghz MBP and a real world test showing it running faster, and I’ll believe you.
