Microsoft Windows Live OneCare for under $20
If you missed out on the pre-release pricing for Microsoft Windows Live OneCare, you can now grab a three-license package for $19.95 over at Amazon. CNET reported that Microsoft’s anti-virus, anti-spyware and system tune-up software grabbed the second spot for sales of security suites in the first month of retail availability.
Microsoft’s list price for the software is $49.95, but you can find it for around $30 in retail stores or take advantage of the current Amazon offering. I’ve been using OneCare on all of my mobile computing devices as well as my desktop PC for about five months and I’m very happy with the application. It does the job and appears to use less system resources than its competitors.

I’m not so sure about the system resources… I uninstalled the Windows Defender portion from my home desktop because it seemed to be impacting performance. Without that component, I’ve been pleased. It’s cheap and simple – what more could one ask for in a woman err security suite.
I’ve used Grisoft’s free AVG anti-virus and the double-protection of LavaSoft’s AdAware and Safer Networking’s Spybot Search & Destroy for several years and my machine has been safe and secure (of course, practicing sensible, safe computing in general, such as using Firefox, also helps).
So what does Windows Live OneCare offer that these free tools don’t give me?
