Fujitsu and Sony join battery recall

Fujitsu announced last week they are recalling 287,000 notebook batteries made by Sony, joining a long list of manufacturers forced to recall batteries due to fire hazard.  Sony has also announced their own recall of batteries installed in their products, something I am surprised took them so long to do.  This is turning into one of the most expensive and far-reaching product recalls in recent memory and it will be interesting to see how this affects the bottom line for Sony and each of the OEMs involved.  I have an idea though, let’s make the process simpler.  Since the total number of recalled batteries now tops 7.5 million, If you have a notebook computer with a battery, send it in and get it replaced.  At the pace it’s going all batteries will end up affected before the end of the year.
