Why to pay for a Yahoo Music service when there is one free Yahoo music service.

It really is a good service, though I was so mad that I missed out on that deal. I subscribed over a year ago within a week of the release of Yahoo! Music Unlimited. After a year, my subscription expired and it took me a few weeks to get around to resubscribing. One month after I resubscribed, they offer up the 2 years for the price of one deal with Mastercard. In fact, I had even paid for it with my Mastercard! So I complained to them. No dice. I got nowhere. No options, nothing.

Admittedly, I am getting exactly what I paid for and I do use it. But still, that left a bad taste in my mouth. Guess I’m just greedy.

Dang, I just signed up for a year on Friday too. I signed up for the Yahoo to Go service though and am using the iRiver Clix that I just won and loading content up on it. I was only going to go with the trial, but forgot to cancel it by 2 days and ended up paying for the year of service. I may be able to cancel, but so far I like using my UMPC and the Clix to listen to lots of music since I have a very small personal collection. Too bad Microsoft is blocking Plays for Sure and sticking it to their partners with the Zune

Careful, Yahoo Music is intoxicating. You’ll end up leaving “ownership” behind when you realize how much music you can get for so little via subscription.

Caveat 1: I don’t think the $60/year plan includes the ability to copy your music to a Plays For Sure device. You have to spring for the slightly pricier version.

Caveat 2: It doesn’t support Vista at this time.
