Windows 7 working fine on a NP-Q1 with 512mb ram. ALOT more responsive than Vista ever was. Needed to do the Idletimer reg edit above for the screen to stop timing out. Needed the Vista audio driver. Windows 7 is working fine. on screen windows 7 keyboard is working fine. Just need to get Ink working, since 7 doesnt recognice the device as a touchpad.

Maxima, with every build of Vista I’ve had sound. With the RTM version, you should be able to download the 80+ MB sound driver from Samsung’s site and install that. I have yet to see that fail, but then again….first time for everything. Good luck!

I installed Vista release today (build 6000). I have relatively a lot but no sound :S

Any help on sound? I dont have playback device detected at all and Q1’s sound driver doesnt want to install.

I have wifi out of box (Vista installed it itself), I installed touchpack from Q1 disk and it solved problem with calibration.

I cant find floattip though. What is it? part of some Q1 software or tablet pc part of Vista?

0kay, I bit the bullet and put Vista on my Q1 today. I’ve gotten the wireless and the sound card working but no matter what I do I can’t get the touch screen working. I’ve tried the new drivers, the old drivers and apart from once (no idea how it happened) my touchscreen doesn’t work as it should. It’s late now so I’ll try again tomorrow.

I checked media center in my eo v7110, I could browse pictures, listen to music and browse the albums with artworks shown, etc. I did not check the video feature because the v7110 and WMP11 just do not work together from previous experiences.

Erik, the Media Center functionality should be probably be seen and not read about so…..perhaps we’ll see a video of Vista RC2 on the Q1? Hold tight….

Amtek uses serial touch chip and others usb.
Amtek is also the only one with tablet os bios, others are on the hw/bios side “normal” laptops.

In the eo v7110 as soon as the eGalax driver was installed from Windows Update the TIP appeared in one of the screen sides.

The funny thing is that both Samsung and Amtek are using the same eGalax and the eo found the drivers using Windows update and the Samsung could not.

Well, I’m getting my samsung at the end of this week or beginning of the next so your article has helped me a lot to understand what is going on with Samsung and Vista.

Oh BTW, the above is also the reason why you don’t have the keyboard at install time and the reason the TIP/touch enhancements are off by default.

This is because Samsung has yet to create a HID driver for the digitizer. MS is putting pressure on them to do so, and unless they do, Tablet PC programs will see the Q1 as just a mouse. That means low sample rate, jaggies, and potentially no support at all for digital ink unless the app accepts mouse input too.

Samsung is being extremely irresponsible only partly implementing the necessary components for being a true Tablet PC. They need to get that HID driver out soon.
