1080p displays in 7.1-inches: UMPC heaven

1080p_small_screen OK, 1920 x 1080 resolution on a 7.1-inch UMPC screen would be overkill, but I’d still like to see it. I have some high-definition videos I’ve compressed for the Q1 (they look great!), but to see a pure 1080p picture, well…that would be heaven to an high-def junkie like me.

Sanyo-Epson has just an offering, but it hasn’t found its way into any devices just yet. Deets are sketchy on power consumption (they claim it’s "low") so I won’t get all in a progressive tizzy just yet. The new displays will be, uh….displayed….starting tomorrow in Japan, so we’ll keep our peepers peeled. Now that I mentioned that HD video on the Q1, I suppose I need to video that too…no? Ah; there’s a screenshot after the jump for any other HD-addicts….

  • How can I get TV on my Q1 (which I’m thinking about naming “Dude”) in the USA? I’m not talking Slingbox or Orb. I want actual over the air TV. Will any of the USB stick TV tuners work with my Q1? I wanted to buy the HVR-950 hybrid digital and analog tuner but the processor specs exceed what Dude has to offer. Has anyone had any luck with one of these?

  • Adding a tuner to any of the UMPCs today will be a real stretch. Not saying it can’t be done, but they lack the hardware and processing power. I have some inquiries on on the USB tuners; they should work fine for any DTV show, but if the broadcast is in high-def, the video will be choppy. I’ve taken a flat HDTV recording from my WMCE box to run it on Sammy and it was tough. That’s why I compressed the file for the show above; it’s much better, but still not perfect.
