Sony’s Vaio G1: fully loaded but just 1.98 pounds
At just under two-pounds, the new Sony Vaio G1 is fairly svelte, but still packs a decent wallop of computing needs into the carbon-fiber chassis. You’ll only get an Intel Core Solo at 1.2 GHz, but I’d carry a capable 2-pounder all day over a 10-pound desktop replacement. [Try it...I dare you!]
The G1 offers up these additional specs:
- 12.1-inch XGA screen
- Up to 1.5 GB of RAM
- 40 or 80 GB hard drive
- Windows XP Professional
- Integrated fingerprint reader, WiFi / Bluetooth
- Optional optical drive which bumps the weight up to 2.17 pounds
- Word on the street is that the double-capacity adds weight, but extends your usage up to 12 hours!
Dynamism has the base model for pre-order around $2,600 at this time.

I’ve wondered why, with all the variations of notebooks they do, don’t Sony have a convertible or slate tablet?
