Silverman gets a MacBook Core 2 Duo
Fellow Houstonian and Houston Chronicle columnist Dwight Silverman has blogged about the receipt of a brand new black MacBook with a Core 2 Duo processor! This latest MacBook version offers incredible power with that new processor and should be a real screamer running Parallels with Vista. Dwight is going to only take this MacBook to CES and is not going to install Windows in a dual-boot configuration, in his words he’s going "without a net" and attend this major show with just the Mac OS X. I look forward to hearing his observations about this new Mac, especially about battery life and heat with that fast processor. Hey Dwight, maybe we can get together at CES so I can see that baby up close and personal.
I’m going to bring Miyagi, my Fujitsu P1610 and who knows, maybe I’ll pick one day at the CES to also go without a net and just use Vista for the day. Maybe.
I have this device (in white). It is my favorite Mac of all time (see above that the Q1 is my favorite Windows device of all time). 2GB RAM is definitely the ticket for running the new Parallels Beta. The parallels install could almost replace my Windows boxes except it still lacks solid USB support. My scanner just won’t work and it doesn’t like my Cingular 8125 either. My main problem is that I can’t bear to leave either the Q1 or the MacBook at home or the office so I’m hauling both back and forth every day. Sort of defeats the purpose of mobility!!! I’m sick, I know.
I thought I read this week that a new version of Parallels added solid USB 2.0 support.
yep it did. I can now use my wacom tablet in parallels. Funny thing tho, Vista sees it s a touch device, and turns on all the touch enhancements, even though i have the drivers installed. did you select your device in the list that you can access by going to devices>usb> ??
Thanks for the heads up on the new version. I just got it loaded. I don’t have my scanner at home so it will have to wait until Tuesday. Still, I think the coherency thing just keeps getting better.

I like this MacBook a lot, but it has one issue that’s irritating. Apparently, Apple’s AirPort Wi-Fi adapters don’t like Linksys WRT54G line of routers. I’ve got the WRT54GX with SRX (it’s first MIMO-equipped model), and my WiFi connection is tenuous at best. I’ve tried some of the tips I’ve seen online for boosting the connection, but none of them have worked yet. Other than that, though, it’s pretty groovy.

Dwight, you’ve probably already tried it but one thing I’ve found that can help when a device has trouble with Linksys routers is to turnoff He power saving option on the WiFi settings on the device.
