USB Battery charger from Apex

Apex_usb_battery_chargerI usually carry a spare set of AAA batteries in my gadget bag just in case my Bluetooth keyboard suddenly loses juice. If you’ve got devices that need batteries, you might want to check out the Apex battery charger that Popgadget popped on us earlier in the week.

You can re-charge up to four AA or AAA batteries in roughly four hours using the USB port on your computer; a feature I like. Why not leverage the power capabilities of a USB port when on AC power? The small recharging case goes for about $12 over at ThinkGeek; rechargeable batteries not included.

Is it me, or does that logo for apex look remarkably familiar?

It looks like Origami Experience without the orange hue.

An alternative I’ve used with my one-USB-port UMPC, is a powered USB hub (powered by four included AAA NiMH batteries). Turn off the power switch, and it charges the four included batteries in six hours. Voila, it’s a battery charger as well as a USB hub. But only AAA, and only four at a time.

Costs a little more money (e.g., $19 at Newegg with 4 AAA batteries):
