Free eBooks on your cell: Manybooks is mobile!
Bob Russell shares this mobile tidbit from MobileRead: Manybooks.net (a public domain / free eBook site) provides a mobile version of their offerings for Java-based cellphones! Point your browser to http://mnybks.net and you can download an eBook in .jar format for reading on the go. If you use Mobipocket reader on a handheld, you can also use the mobile site for Mobipocket format books. Given the smallish-screen on my T-Mobile Dash, I’m going to pass on this for now, but I’d love to hear from some readers that give it a try! Bear in mind that these are non-DRM titles (I think we have a theme going here), so you won’t find recent best-sellers and the like; however, Manybooks states that there are over 16,000 titles available.

Smallish screen? I find the dash screen to handle ebooks very well.
Too bad that site doesn’t offer their books in ereader format. I’m no fan of mobipocket.
Aaron, I’m spoiled by reading eBooks on the 7-inch screen of my UMPC and prior to that on the 4-inch VGA screen of my Toshiba e800 Pocket PC. If it wasn’t for that, I think I’d be fine on the Dash.
I just enjoy reading ebooks and listening to music while travelling. Lots of them are available here http://www.immed8.com
Kevin,
ahhh, now I understand.
Believe me, if I could get a UMPC sized machine that had an active digitizer AND didn’t cost $2000+ (I’m looking at YOU Motion Computing LS800!) I would be in ebook and computer heaven.
I just can’t do any art with the passive touchscreen UMPCs. I need the pressure sensitivity!
I just finished adding eReader formatted downloads to mnybks.net this evening, Aaron — hope you find something you’d like to read!
Just want add some good computer Ebook source. Of course with your permission!.
