Jelpy,
Super only does transcoding, you would need to first rip the DVD (plenty of free apps on the interweb are avialable, one I use is DVDShrink).

Can Super directly open (read from) a DVD disc? Or do you first have to rip it to disc? Can it convert copy protected DVDs?

I have used eright software's Super, which is free (beer) ware. It is not limited to only Nokia devices, it has a raft of output options. As I write, it is converting a DVD for my Nokia N800 and Samsung Q1.
