Sony adds 32-GB SSD option to VAIO G

Sony_vaioSony just made the under two-pound VAIO G1 notebook even lighter by providing an option to drop the traditional magnetic hard drive in favor of a 32 GB Solid State Disk, or SSD. You’ll add about $550 to the price over the 40 GB drive option, but you’ll gain an extra 10% or so in battery life while reducing weight a tad too. I still don’t see the price at a point to tip the market towards flash-based hard drives just yet, but by this time next year I suspect you’ll see nearly as many SSD-based notebook purchases as those with standard hard drives. Too bad nobody’s made these drives easily removable to use as a portable flash-based MP3 player…now that might get me to bite on one of these sooner rather than later.
