Skype for the Nokia N800 coming
Andy Abramson of VoIP Watch is THE source for accurate information about all Nokia products, especially the N800 Internet Tablet. Andy mentions today that Skype has indicated a version is coming for the N800, something I’d love to see. Skype is my preferred choice for a VoIP client because I can currently run it on my Windows devices, the MacBook Pro, and my Windows Mobile phones. Having Skype on the N800 would be, umm, liberating to say the least. Especially now that Kevin’s shown us how to get podcasts on the N800. Mobile web tour de force.

In the forum of internettablettalk.com that focusses on the N770 and N800, you can read at least one discussion about skype coming. What is neat, is that some of Nokia’s beta-testers/developers are part of the discussion
James: This was first announced at CES when the N800 was launched. It was promised for Q2 so a release this month or next is what I’ve been planning on/hoping for.
You might also want to check out Gizmo Project, which has been available for the N800 and 770 for quite a long time. Gizmo is SIP based VOIP software and supports secondary logins (they don’t require you to use their service), so you you can use it with any provider you want. I used it recently on my trip to Mexico.
Skype promises a lot, but doesn’t always deliver. Prime focus for Skype is Windows, then the mobile PHONES, then the Mac and last AND least other mobile devices.
Since there is still a lot of catching up to do on any platfor that is not Windows, i wouldn’t expect a Skype version for the Nokia n800 anytime soon.
