New version of MindManager unveiled
Podcasting buddy Marc Orchant has all the low-down of the just announced major upgrade to one of my favorite programs, MindManager. The new version 7 is chock-full of mindmapping goodness, not the least of which is a ribbon interface a la Office 2007. Here’s just a sample of the new stuff under the hood:
- Ribbon UI

There are many, many improvements and we’ll just have to wait until the release date of May 30 to see them for ourselves. There will also be a new Mac version released at that time that finally adds outlining capability. The new Pro version will retail for $349 with upgrades going for $174. The Mac versions will be $129 and $64, full and upgrade respectively.

Man, I love MindManager but $174 is a little steep for an upgrade. But the upgrade to v6 was well worth the money and, based on Mark’s post, I’ll have to seriously consider it.
I don’t read anything about enhancing the inking ability. Without making it more tablet friendly, I just can’t see upgrading. I’ll certainly download the trial when it’s available, but the ribbon is not an automatic upgrade enhancement (the ribbon’s actually a deterent to me upgrading).
The upgrade price seems to be very high. At the moment they offer an upgrade from MindManager 2002 and X5 to MindManager Pro 6 for US$119 and the option to get a FREE upgrade to MindManager 7 and a FREE Jetpack. That would make the Upgrade from 2002 to MM7 for $119 compared to $174 for an upgrade MM6 to MM7.
The inking is the same, but the formatting is improved so that it’s easier to use the same formatting from map to map. That’s big for me. I need to know when ResultsManager is ready for the new MM. A few other improvements I read about have me sold.
