Right now I am thinking about trying to manually chang the Bios to read 2GB and then chang out the chip and reboot.

What do you think, any words of encouragement, or input would be helpful.

HELP HELP!!!
i put in a 2gb stick of PC-5300 667DDR2

bios is 20MA … bios and vista both recognise the new ram.
all was ok for a short time, then had multiple crashes and blue screens of death – various numbers and messages on the blue screen, one says: MEMORY_MANGEMENT

- the guy in the PC shop said 667 is backward compatible, and will work.
- windows vista suggests i could use the recovery CD to repair the installation.

what should I do?

does it make a difference which area opens first? my q1 opened easily at the bottom of screen area but wouldnt move at the top. i’ll try opening from the top first.

You have to be very careful opening the cover. If you have all 6 screws removed, the only things holding the front and back of the unit together are plastic interlocking tabs. They join the front and the back cover. Make sure you open up the door panel of the VGA port and the Ethernet port so those are out of your way. Then it’s a matter of separating the front and back (carefully) where the few tabs are.

i’ve taken the 6 screws out, and mostly opened the case …but is there a clip or something on the inside the case, near where the power on/off switch is?
…i cant see what’s stopping me open it fully to take the cover right off and i dont want to force it. anyone else found this?

2 GB isn’t supported in the Q1B due to the VIA chipset. 1 GB is the max.

Has anyone tried 2GB with Samsung Q1B yet?

I would like to add my name to the list of 2GB RAM upgraders for the Samsung Q1. Now if I can find a SSD drive to upgrade I can feel more at ease mounting this on my Harley.

I would also like to add to the list of successful upgrades for Q1 celeron. after upgrading the bios from 02 to 20 I installed my new 2GB stick from fry’s electronics a patriot psd22g5332s. The bios then showed the 2GB and the system has been working much faster on the applications that I have tried. at first I did not see the total difference, there was a lot of stuff starting up in the background but once I eliminated some of the junk it looks to be quicker than my old laptop. maybe I need to look into what is running in the background on it. Ha, Ha!
the only painful part was when the swiped the credit card at fry’s.

My UMPC is Samsung Q1 (Model: NP-Q1-V002/SEA) and have the same BIOS version as Kevin. I just also installed Vista Home Premium on my UMPC and it works great with the 2GB upgrade.

hi there, I have a wried problem with my pc and I hope you can help me out. The problem is that I wanted to upgrade my Ram (1gb to 3gb) so I got them and I install it, but when I try to start my pc it won’t boot up to Vista. So i took out the 2GB of Ram and it works again. Why is that?? Why cam I upgrade more then 1GB of Ram?? I could go into Bios and it says 3GB, but it won’t boot up to windows. So what i’m I doing wrong? or is it Vista?? Please help, Thank you

Downloaded the bios, ordered and installed, and the performance boost is terrific – all simple. it makes a really different and much more useful machine. I’ve also got the five hour battery and now for vista.
