Dell’s Ubuntu offerings to start this week?

Dell_inspiron_1505Nothing official from the company at this point, but Jeremy claims to have an e-mail that Dell sent its employees. If it’s legit, we should see Ubuntu available as an operating system choice as early as this Thursday, May 24th. The note also indicates a minor initial push with the open source OS as only three models, two desktops and one laptop, will have the option. The notebook in question sounds like the Inspiron 1505, which isn’t the most mobile unit in the lineup due to its 15.4-inch screen and starting weight at just over six-pounds. Still, I’d expect we’ll see Ubuntu filter through to some of the more svelte units like the M1210. Anyone running Ubuntu full time on their mobile device?

  • I’m running it on my laptop exclusively and on my desktop which dual boots with XP.

  • I’m dual booting Ubuntu 7.04 on my Samsung Q1. I have the touchscreen working and the OS is very snappy compared to Vista. With 2 GB RAM in my Q1 now it will be even faster.
