Evdo_rev_aGood news for Verizon Wireless customers, well some of ‘em anyway. The CDMA cellular carrier announced completion of the EV-DO Revision A network upgrade. What’s that mean? Nothing unless you have a phone, modem or device with integrated WWAN that supports the newer EV-DO revision. If you do, you can enjoy download speeds between 600 kbps and 1.4 Mbps but the real enhancement is going back up the pipe: 500 to 800 kbps uploads, which are about three times faster than what I’ve seen with my EV-DO Rev. 0 access. I know that James has enjoyed his EV-DO Rev. A modem speeds for a few months in Houston; check his speed test results and impressions if you missed them prior.

  • Whoopie doo, now you can browse the web and get email a little faster until you “somehow” reach the unlimited 4GB limit where they’ll cut your throat for it.

  • Does the Blackberry 8830 have Rev. A?

  • Scott the Blackberry doesn’t have Rev. A it has Rev. O. I use it as tethered modem with USB cable and at times with BT DUN and works great for email and browsing. It would be nice if they had Rev. A on 8830 but its ok for now.
