Microsoft Reader for Origami arrives with some extras
The newest version of Microsoft Reader has finally arrived and is optimized for Tablet PCs and UMPCs running Vista. Wait, scratch that last bit because the extra time before release allowed the development team to add in XP Tablet Edition support as well! After you download the reader application, be sure to look for the Origami / UMPC optimizations like page-side navigation, larger and easier to read context menus for the small screen and more! Hey Audible fans: you’ve got some goodies in there too, so don’t wait: hit up the download page and check it out!

Thank you Kevin!
I was wondering when they were going to get around to the update/upgrade. And I am happy to hear it has a XP option since everyone with a UMPC doesn’t have a Vista option.
It didn’t install on my OQO 02….said I needed the origami experience pack. I’m running Vista Ultimate.
What stores support Microsoft Reader?
The only XP version that I could find is two years old. did you see a current version?
Installed fine (sort of) on my v7110, but had to do it twice.
Installed new version, said it needed to be activated.
While trying to activate it, I was told I had to install 2.5 which removed 2.6 but activated MS Reader via .Net Passport.
Then re-installed 2.6, everything is fine now.
Fictionwise.com supports .lit but there are quite a few others that support .lit too.
I’m happy to see that MSFT didn’t abandon the Reader platform, now, if only they would update the Pocket PC version too…
I was hoping it would convert written text to audible so I could listen to my books. Does anyone know of such a program?
Z and Michael: this version has a single setup file for either Vista or XP Tablet, but it does require the Origami Experience /
Touch Pack software, i.e.: it’s meant for Origami specified devices.
Kevin, as for as I can tell, the OETP is only available for Vista.
It won’t even install on my tablet PC
Michael, the first Origami specified devices ran XP Tablet Edition; the supporting Origami software was called the Touch Pack and was provided by the OEM. For Vista, that software is the Origami Experience. For that reason, you can’t run this version of MS Reader on your Tablet PC: it’s not an Origami specified device and this is the Reader version for Origami devices.
Why making it Origami only? With tablet coming more with dual touch/active touch tablet are increasing. Basically I’m mad I can’t on my fujitsu P1610 with XP.
Also I had tried to install it, it went on erasing the tablectPC 2.5 version before telling me I can’t install this 2.6 version.
