Averatec_1579I don’t hear too much about Averatec machines these days, so the recent CNET review of the Averatec 1579 notebook caught my eye. Most fetching is the 3.5-pound weight of this 11.1-inch notebook. The Intel ULV Core Duo running at 1.06 GHz is meant for judicious battery life so you’ll need to decide if you can make do with a relatively slow CPU. Averatec uses a 5200 RPM drive up to 120 GB, so that should keep your data moving along at a decent pace. No Bluetooth and no PC Card in this small package, although you do get an Express Card slot and an integrated optical burner. At a tick under $1,300, this might be worth a look if you desire a lightweight full notebook with a limited budget.
