  • I just got a free Starbucks card today. Sounds like I need to cash it in before inflation hits. My advice, stick to decaf between now and then, so they don’t have you hooked by the time they increase the prices.

  • 9 cents extra for a caffeine buzz and a wifi signal – I am OK with that.
I think their coffee is overpriced anyway.
I actually prefer the A&P coffee at home and the wifi signal here works great.

  • I’m curious how you can afford to go to Starbucks nearly everyday and use their wifi. Maybe it’s cheaper in the US, here in the UK a cup of coffee and 1 hour access would cost $15. I’ve given up on WiFi outside of the home and office because it’s too expensive. An internet cafe would charge around $4/hour, wifi charges $10/hour yet you still have to provide your own equipment and buy coffee so you can occupy a seat. It seems to be only for business executives with expense accounts. With the introduction of “unlimited” 3G it’s becoming cheaper than WiFi.

  • James, if you’re around the Heights area, there’s a coffee shop by the name of Catalina Coffee (washington & sawyer) that I recommend. I’m over by the med center, but I make the drive since it’s definitely worth it. They pull some excellent espresso shots. Definitely the best stuff I’ve had in Houston, and I’ve tried a lot of places in my search for good espresso. I’m not sure what your drink is, but I’m sure it’ll beat the charred stuff that *$’s serves. Free wifi of course.

  • I see two errors here: 1, paying for Starbuck’s craptastic WiFi, and 2, reading the Chronicle. Only suckers pay for Wifi. I’m pretty sure Starbuck’s is the only outlet in town that actually has the stones to try to charge for it.

  • Mark H: here in the U.S. you can get an unlimited T-Mobile HotSpot plan that covers Starbucks for $20 a month. Well worth it if you’re out and about.

  • In response to Mr Grinch, I pay for Wifi and am not a sucker. I pay money to an ISP and use an 802.11g router. I do not mooch off my neighbors.
