JKK shows off the Kohjinsha SH6, a nice little laptop

Is it a laptop, a Tablet PC, or UMPC? Heck, it doesn’t matter what you call it because the Kohjinsha SH6 is a nice portable device. JKK shows it off in a video and it’s quite an impressive little number. I know Steve Paine has used a Kohji for mobile blogging and I can see why; the device handles Vista reasonably with 2 GB of RAM (which is a nice UMPC upgrade) and the integrated keyboard appears quite capable as well. For an integrated keyboard, this is about as small as I could personally go, so I’m curious to see how the upcoming HTC Shift compares as they appear comparable. Since the SH6 has more screen bezel, I suspect the Shift keyboard will be smaller than the one on the SH6.

  • Any news on US pricing and availability yet?

  • Wow never would expect you to call it a laptop in the title. Especially since it has all the same parts as today’s UMPC. It has the basics of a touchscreen so it’s at least a Tablet PC convertible. I guess the Fujitsu U810 is a laptop too.
It doesn’t matter, but put ‘laptop’ in the title? That just sounds demeaning coming from you.

  • There’s no disrespect intended; it has the form factor of a small convertible laptop. I’m not saying it isn’t a UMPC at all.

  • Ya I know. It’s impossible to say what it or what isn’t a UMPC anymore. It just took me by surprise by seeing the measly ‘laptop’ word :) .
But anyway, I may pick one up soon. I’m hoping there’s a US branded version. Data Evolution carries a rebranded version of the SA1 series with a touchscreen and I’m hoping they will carry this as well.

  • Hey, Kevin, I’ve had my ‘white’ SH6 for about a month now and really enjoy using it…

Display is very bright and sharp and keyboard is still touch-typeable…

Performance is not bad considering CPU and Vista OS.I’ve tweaked Vista heavily along with upgrading RAM to 2GB, both really made a difference…

All in all a very nice convertible TPC…

    PS, Hi! Rodfather…. ;-)

  • This is actually quite remarkable how skimpy most of the reviews are.
As if people who managed to get these very nice small devices actually have no clue what to do with them besides opening up a media player and internet explorer.
