Swivel actually ads alot of size and weight to umpc…
As u know i have been using Kohjinsha sh6 now and I really don’t feel good with it’s swivel by it’s added bulk and slow “swiveling action”.
As I have also tested other slider umpcs and I like them alot ( as for design )but having laptop mode on top just makes it perfect.

So I would say slate/slider/laptop form is not only a cool thing but actually wery practical in use.

By no new slate UMPCs I meant 2nd generation, not just refreshes of what was before.

Re: HTC Shift- slate/slider/laptop is cool but in actual usage no different than a swivel screen, unless it can keep the whole device thinner and lighter.

As I said on the podcast, these issues are highly personal given the nature of mobile devices. I just stated my preference.

I would say the the biggest difference on htc shift is it’s form factor ( slate/slider/laptop )

Many of us type as good ( bad ) on small and full size keyboard

U1010 may be a bit too small as it doesn’t actually have all keys ( like TAB )

But as the bottom line: oems need volumes and they cant get it with slates.
And the other way: user want keyboards.

I love slate mode for enterteinment use, surfing, videos etc. but I need mobile computer for my work too, and I need a keyboard on it. No bt or usb, it needs to be on the device!

As a form factor, shift will be the winner for me and many others.

Nope, just what I said. We had several aborted attempts at recording. We do the show over Skype since we’re in different states and Marc’s network problems kept disconnecting us. Marc and I are still good buds.
