HTCmail launching in September: hosted Exchange from HTC
If I learned one thing from covering the Nokia press event yesterday it’s this: the move to offer services is starting to permeate into traditional hardware-only companies. The new Nokia phones weren’t the story yesterday: the gaming and music services under the Ovi branding were big news. With that in mind, take a look at the latest HTC press release that covers the TyTn II. Tucked in there is mention of HTCmail, eye-spied by Mobility Site.
HTCmail kicks off next month in France and the U.K. as an HTC-branded Microsoft Exchange Service. Here’s the skinny:
- Business-critical information is always backed-up, up to date and protected
- Users can sign up and manage their account online at [enter final URL], and have the added support of a 24-hour customer service centre
- 2GB Mail Storage
- 20MB mail send size limit
- Anti-virus and anti-spam capabilities
- Variety of subscriptions packages, 3, 6 or 12 months
- Compatible with all Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows Mobile 6 devices
- 2 month no obligation trial
No pricing yet, but I’d like to see a discount if you purchase an HTC phone. Not that they need that kind of incentive since they’re coming out with a bunch of great devices, but still….

iMate also had (has?) hosted email as part of a phone purchase, however I never used it. I think the idea is a good one. It will be interesting to see how their pricing compares.
