HP 2710p now over $500 off!
When I first received the HP 2710p Tablet PC on evaluation from HP I went to the HP online store to check the pricing. I found that the configuration I am testing, 1.2 GHz Core 2 Duo, 100 GB hard drive, 2 GB memory and 2 MP web cam was priced at $2,299 (but minus the web cam). This price is in line with similar Tablet PCs so I was pretty pleased with that price. The ultra-slim battery is $179 and the expansion base is $299, both of which I would purchase if I was going to buy the 2710p. Tonight I went back to see if the pricing had changed or if HP was offering other configurations for order. Imagine my surprise when I saw this:
That’s right, the same configuration I am evaluating that is regular price of $2,299 without the web cam) is now on sale for $1,749 (with web cam)! This means you can order the 2710p, the ultra-slim battery and expansion base for less than the regular price of the Tablet alone. This just got a whole lot more interesting.
Now the pool can start to see if I will buy one of these bad boys.

I am trying to decide between the 2710, a custom built mini-desktop, or a consumer-design HP laptop. My only real concern over the 2710 is whether the lack of touchpad is going to be fustrating while traveling. Thoughts?
The trackstick is very well implemented.
That’s the same price I bought mine for several weeks ago – it is the Smart Buy deal.

and same config….
That’s cool Rob. I noted that the CDW prices are higher for the accessories- $213 for the slice battery and a whopping $345 for the base.
Don’t do it!
How could it be better than the Lenovo? Don’t you just HAVE to wait to see what Dell comes up with? And altho it’s pretty…there seems to be a lot of l’il things missing. And how come…to this day…Apple can fit a full-power optical reader/writer in their skinniest laptops and HP and Lenovo can’t??
Wow…a wave of curmudeonliness came over me!!
Al, thanks for the warning.
The Dell is no doubt going to be pretty cool but I always go for what works best for my work scenario and right now that’s the HP. As for the optical drive, the one in the HP base station is only 7 mm thick so it could easily be taken on trips should the need arise. Personally I don’t like them integrated in my tablets as I want thinnest and lightest possible.
