Jk_icon_100pixI will be meeting a jkOnTheRun reader at Starbucks tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 Houston time to demonstrate a few mobile devices.  It will take place at the Starbucks at 249 & Jones road and I’ll be bringing at least the following:

  • Lenovo x61 Tablet PC
  • HP 2710p Tablet PC
  • OQO Model 02
  • Fujitsu P1610 Tablet PC
  • HTC Advantage
  • Nokia N800

If you’re in the area and would like to fondle any of the above drop by and say howdy.

  • Geez, I wish you were here in Miami and could do this demo here. I am on the fence on whether to get a Lenovo X61T (larger HD, multitouch) or a HP 2710P (camera, more sleek design, slice battery). What’s your preference on these two?

  • Fernando, what, you can’t fly to Houston? :)

The x61 I am evaluating doesn’t have the multi-touch screen so my preference doesn’t address that. As it stands right now if I was going to buy one of these two it would be the HP. Thinner, lighter and reasonably priced.

  • Tell you what James, do another of these soon and give me a couple of more days notice, and I will GLADLY take the trip out there (seriously). I have been in Houston for a day before…

Thanks for the tip regarding the comparison between these two.

  • jk…I do believe I recognize those Strbx coordinates from our meeting earlier this year. Mixed retail and high-density residential. However can the unprotected locals – or even the seasoned baristas – hope to withstand the concentrated nerd waves? I’m Houston bound later this month and my nebbishy heart is aching that my trip isn’t 3 weeks earlier. I’d love to fiddle with the HP and Lenovo and speak some geek.
    Gizmo on!

  • I would love to attend, but I’m in St. Louis… If you would like to broadcast this via webcam, let me know. I’d be happy to facilitate via LiveMeeting.

  • OK, I hear you. I will schedule one of these in the not too distant future and give plenty of notice for anyone who wants to travel in for it. I’ll also consider streaming it live on video for those who can’t make it. Maybe we can talk Kevin to come to Houston for it. :)

  • If you guys had $400 burning a hole in your pocket, would you go with reduce price Iphone or Nokia N800? I’m primarily interested in portable web surfing.

  • James, any chance you could give us an update on your experience with the OQO. I am currently torn between the latest version and the latest UX1N.

What I really want to know is whether the OQO is fast enough to run Vista’s voice recognition software. Because, if it is, then a lot of the ‘is the keyboard big enough’ problem goes away – at least in theory.

Have you had a chance to try this yet?
