Coffee break- sell me some batteries

Coffee_manI finally got out of the house and am now happily embedded in a chair at my local Starbucks doing some work and blogging.  As soon as I set up here and turned on my Bluetooth mouse it was quickly apparent that the batteries are getting low as it always starts working a bit erratically when they do.  I look in my bag and NO BATTERIES!  I always have at least a couple AAAs which this mouse uses but I guess I used the last two and didn’t replace them.  It’s not a tragedy but it has be thinking, why doesn’t Starbucks sell AA and AAA batteries?  With all the people I see using battery-powered mice right now surely they could sell them at a good profit because when you need batteries you REALLY need batteries.  It’s a good thing that I like using the HP’s integrated trackstick so I’m not too upset but believe me if they sold batteries here I would have paid pretty good money for a couple.  :)

  • Ah, I see you didn’t read my Mobile Gear page carefully. I always carry spare batteries in the bag! ;)

  • Ah, I see you didn’t read my post carefully, I said I always carry batteries in the bag but must have forgotten for once. :)

  • I don’t think batteries go along with them trying to make an ‘eco-friendly’ image

  • ahhh, I bought a USB powered 4-slot battery charger. Granted, you have to have some NiMH AAA batteries to carry in the charger – but it does make for an easier time and is eco-friendly.
I understand forgetting to pack some batteries.

  • For what Starbucks would invariably want for a 4 pack of batteries, I’m sure I’d still walk to the nearest MegaMart for them. Sometimes it’s very small, but there is a difference between a geek and a chump. Buying batteries at Starbucks would be one of those differences.

  • I wonder what would happen if you brought in a UMPC and ran out of batteries in the bluetooth keyboard. Go back home? Or fight it out with the TIP?

  • That is why I avoid the wireless mice (and keyboards) like the plague. I don’t like the weight of them, to begin with, and running out of battery power on such an essential item when out and about is just hideous.

Just picked up a new Logitech NX50 laptop mouse and am using that everywhere, even at home. Great laser precision and I love the tiny, super-light touch of it.
