Dr_jay_2Allan Horii, a reader and physician, sent me an email last night pointing me to a new Doctor in NYC who is set up to be a totally mobile practitioner.  Dr. Jay Parkinson of Williamsburg, Brooklyn has just started his medical practice in the past few days and he’s centered it around mobile technology to ply his trade.  People in Brooklyn wanting to become a new patient of Dr. Jay must first fill out an online patient application complete with medical history and all the other information one has to provide a new physician.  Dr. Jay then comes to the new patient’s home for the first visit, in fact he only makes house calls.  He interacts with patients via phone, email, IM and video chat to provide as much of the care as possible remotely.  When needed he is at the patient’s home in a flash, such a rarity in this day and age.  Let’s hope that Dr. Jay gets his practice going quickly and that he ushers in a new old style of one to one health care.  I must say that Dr. Jay’s web site is one of the best I have seen in any business so I feel pretty confident he’s got it going on.  He’s even got a blog.  We need to get this guy a Tablet PC if he doesn’t already have one.

  • Who needs a tablet PC when you’ve got an iPhone? My practice is centered around my macs. I wouldn’t take the risk of working with a Windows computer.

  • Funny… our pediatrician, also located in New York, has all the calendar, contacts, etc online. So any time we have a question, just log on the website and ask. If we need to reschedule an appointment, change our address, verify vaccinations, etc. Just log in and do it!

I think the trick in making your practice “techno-focussed” is plain simple: make it easy and efficient. The rewards are less administrative work and rapid access to patient files, but it asks for more “online” work.

    My 2 cents :-)

  • As long as everything is secure. I’m very curious about how the patient info is secured. I think it’s a really great idea; I would just hate to see such a great use of mobile tech ruined due to a huge law suit. Dr Parkinson?
