Get some Vista SP-1 goodness early

PatchesJames mentioned four Vista patches earlier this morning while I was in coffee heaven and I just got around to reviewing the details on them. If I had to guess, I’d say that these patches are already a part of Vista SP-1 as I have the beta service pack installed on my Samung Q1P and I couldn’t install the first two patches. These address many issues, but I was interested in them due to the positive effects expected on mobile devices. Sure enough, when I went to install them, I got the message shown: This update does not apply to your system.

If you’re not in the Vista SP-1 beta, now’s a good time to get some of the good bits of the service pack. Assuming I’m right and that these patches are a part of the service pack, I’m a little suprised to see them available now. Regardless, it’s probably worth the download and install to see if these make your Vista experience any more enjoyable.

  • Paul Thurrott mentioned that MS would be releasing some performance and reliability patches this month that would also form part of SP1. Howeever, I’ve just checked for updates and I haven’t got anything except a Windows Defender update that was installed yesterday.

  • Whoops, I just read JK’s post further down which explains why the patches didn’t appear in Windows Update.

  • Hurmurwhimer, these aren’t showing up in Windows Update as of yet and if they are part of Vista SP-1, I expect that we won’t see them in Windows Update as individual patches. That’s just a guess on my part, however.

  • so i guess these are the finished patches from SP1 thats why they are being released individually? maybe the other SP1 patches are still beta?

  • Lots of folks reporting system problems including BSODs and the like after applying these patches. I am not going to apply them to the new HP as a result and don’t recommend anyone apply them yet.
