Icon_mediasmartserver_3While the iPhone announcement deflated much of CES this past January, one of the more exciting technologies that kept people interested was definitely Microsoft’s Windows Home Server product. If you’ve got a spare box around the house and want to evaluate WHS, Microsoft is offering 120-evaluations for a low shipping price. Here in the U.S. you can order an eval copy and have it delivered within the next 1-3 weeks for $5.99.WHS offers a simple-to-use home computing platform that consolidates and stores all of your digital media, backs up every PC on your network, and provides remote access to your data; something we mobile-tech’rs just have to have. Windows-Now has a full listing of ordering links based on your location. You’ll want to make sure at a minimum you have a PC with at least a 1 GHz Pentium III, 512 MB of RAM, 70 GB of storage on the main drive, additional drives, a DVD drive and broadband Internet connection.

  • Well, $6.48 in Texas. I was charged 8% tax because of a Houston, TX address. Actually, it should have been 7% as I do not live in the city limits but I imagine most programs are not that smart.
