64 GB SSD in a MacBook Pro
Too early for the benchmarks yet, but SlashGear has a new Samsung 64 GB SSD drive in a MacBook Pro. While the pricing on these quiet platter-less drives is still too expensive for mainstream market use, we continue to get closer to a viable alternative for our traditional magnetic drives. We loved the 32 GB unit that was wrapped inside a Samsung Q1 UMPC, so we can’t wait to see how well the drive performs in a standard notebook. With access times under one millisecond and read/writes in the 57 MBps / 32 MBps range, this ought to give a little turbocharge to the MacBook Pro lucky enough to have this drive under the hood. I’d expect the unit to grab another 30 minutes of battery runtime with this drive, so let’s see how close I am when SlashGear drops the statistics. To hold us over in the meantime, they’ve got two videos: one of the drive unboxing and one after the straightforward installation.

Leopard already boots fast on my Macbook with a Seagate 160gb 5400 rpm Hard drive.
With the Samsung SSD, I predict a sub 20 sec boot into either Leopard or Tiger.
Looks like they posted their benchmark today
