AsuseeepcbestbuyJust a quick note that the Best Buy website is now showing the Asus Eee PC. You can order one for $399 but unfortunately, the current availability shows a 1 to 2 week backorder. What’s more disturbing is that the low-cost notebook shows as online only, meaning you can’t order one and pick it up at a store. Does that mean the Eee won’t be seen in the retail channel right now? Bummer if true.I also wanted to mention a few quick specs of the device as James reminded me that I never shared them:

  • Intel 900 MHz Celeron-M ULV 353 CPU, although it appears that the CPU is only running at 630 MHz
  • 4 GB of on-board flash memory with approximately 1.3 GB available out of the box
  • 7-inch 800 x 480 display; no touchscreen
  • Customized version of Xandros Linux pre-installed with the capability to install & support Windows XP
  • 3 USB 2.0 ports, mic & headphone jacks, integrated mic, .3 MP webcam, stereo speakers, 512 MB of RAM
  • 5200 mAh battery that nets you around 3.5 hours of runtime
  • Integrated 802.11 b/g wireless, no bluetooth
  • MMC / SD card reader, which I believe supports SDHC cards
  • Trackpad, single mouse button bar (that supports left and right clicks) and full QWERTY keyboard
  • Weight around two pounds

Those are all the base specs I can remember. I’d check on the device, but I seem to have lost it to a 10-year old after he recorded a video overview of his impressions. ;)
