Get the N810 OS on your N800, boost CPU by 30%
That’s what Sal over at Geek did based on this set of instructions from Crave. Looks like Nokia is holding off on releasing the latest N8xx operating system in order to ensure the N810 looks a little "shinier" than the older N800. While we should see the update officially available for the N800 soon, you can finagle an unofficial copy now. I leave it to you in terms of the moral, ethical and legal aspects.
Aside from the updated environment, you’ll get the N800 processor running at 400 MHz, which is nearly 30% faster than the stock 320 MHz speed. Makes me wonder if Nokia underclocked it to save power or they’re overclocking it with the update and if so: what’s the impact on battery life? You’ll need a Linux machine to run through the relatively simple steps… I just happen to have one in Eeegor, the Eee PC… hmm…
Update: Nokia has a press release indicating that the N810 is now shipping in the U.S.

The N800 was underclocked originally as they didn’t get the power saving worked out for OS2007.
I’m waiting for the offical release before reflashing my N800, if for no other reason that a lot of the sotware I use is currently not ported/tested on OS2008. By the time it turns up most will be compatible due to the efforts of early adoptors.
One issue makes me a little sad. I use the Opera brower on my N800 and it will not be available under OS2008….
Ooh, no Opera is a deal killer for me.
