You can convert .PDF (non-DRMed) with the FREE Mobipocket Creator available at mobipocket.com.

The Kindle can read non-DRMed .PRC (Mobipocket) and several other formatted books by loading them from your PC via the included USB cable.

My Kindle will be here tomorrow or Wednesday.

Anthony, I can’t answer question one, but the answer to question two is: ten cents per doc.

I ordered mine. I have a few questions though.

1. I’ve read a few blogs saying that you can email pdf files to it but on the kindle page it doesn’t state that pdf is one of the formats. This is a big deal for me because I’m a student and have about 40 pages of pdf to read a week and it would be great to have them be so mobile.

2. Does anyone know what the “small fee” will be for emailing documents to your kindle?

Once you order your kindle you can begin buying for it. Your kindle is automatically registered to your Amazon account and when you purchase a kindle content item you have a drop down list on your purchase page for which unit (you can have up to six) to send it to.

I’ve already purchased books, magazines, newspaper… I figure I’ve got 30 days if the the device really sucks.

I opted for overnight. I tried for courier but alas courier wasn’t offered as its stocked in KY.

James I hate you (but in a nice way of course )). This is one gadget I REALLY wanted to play with but God knows when we’re going to get it in ‘3 years behind everyone else’ UK. Godammit we haven’t even got the Sony eReader here yet so what hope have we got of seeing this any time soon?

In all seriousness, I thought about it too, but held off for a number of reasons.

1. I just spent the same amount of cash on the Asus Eee PC and have to watch the budget.
2. I’ve invested hundreds of dollars in eBook content already that I won’t be able to use with the Kindle. I’m the kind who reads books over and over, so this hurts. You can’t even read old MobiPocket books with it, which is a shame.
3. I can’t get past the screen refreshing of eInk devices personally. Probably the same reason I have 3 HDTVs and none of them are DLP-based; the “rainbow effect” drives me batty.

I seriously thought about it after playing with one a couple of months ago and loving ebooks. However, the $400 cost is just the start and with each book running $10 and an easy wireless technology through Sprint to download them in seconds I think my credit card would get maxed out real quick without any initial pain. I’ll stick with the HTC Advantage or other WM/S60 device and buy $400 in ebooks if I really want to get some more content. Shoot, I have 4 Mobipocket formatted books from Fictionwise to read right now on my devices.

I would have to see the Kindle priced at about $200 before I could begin to think about one myself. Now, if ZDNet blogs take off with the subscription model and my blog gets some benefit from it, then I’ll definitely jump on one for myself. I just couldn’t write a review then since there would be a conflict of interest.

Yeah yeah, heaven help me, I gave in and ordered one. I’m such a huge sucker. Oh my poor credit card.

And once it comes tomorrow I’ll get to go book shopping…
