Gear Diary smackdown: HTC Touch vs. HTC Touch Dual
One thing is certain in a smackdown between the HTC Touch and HTC Touch Dual: bet on the HTC device and you’re sure to come out a winner. Judie Hughes is in the enviable position of having both Windows Mobile 6 phones in her possession, so if you’re looking for the differences in terms of specs, functionality or physical nature, now’s your chance. Bear in mind that the HTC Touch Dual is geared for the non-U.S. market as the UMTS / HSDPA radio only supports 2100 MHz. Get a feel for both devices and their differences over at Gear Diary and see if either has you longing to reach out and Touch one! I’d probably opt for the original Touch since I prefer a touchscreen over a slide-out numeric keypad but the way Judie raves about the look and feel of the Touch Dual might have me second-guessing myself!
I would think that the twice as speedy chip in the Dual would make it a winner?
and the touch dual has a touch screen as well as the numeric pad so a double winner. I have both and for a 15 second review
Touch Dual :
+++ : 3G (voice and data at the same time and faster), faster CPU and more storage so less lagginess
—: flaky and buggy software especially in searching contacts which is a real ball ache; slightly smaller screen than the touch; battery life unpredictable (3G); no WiFi
000: different form factor doesn’t really add much apart from faster texting which is a plus in the UK
Touch:
+++ : sleek and nice size; WiFi; decent screen estate
— : underpowered and undersize storage even with the 1 Gbyte microSD in the package the device grinds when put under load (even with only a couple of apps, no 3G
000 : poor texting
the killer for me is 3G so the dual is my device of choice at the mo if I had 3g and the faster chip in the touch I’d stick with that.
Can you still use the onscreen keyboard for text entry on the touch dual, just like the regular touch?
