What gadgets did you get for the holiday?

Windupshoes_015506Well it’s back to work with the Christmas holiday now behind us so it’s only appropriate that we ask you what geeky gadgetry did you get under the tree?  We’ve already heard from one reader who found an HTC Advantage under the tree, what a great gift!  So what did you get?  I got a very nice gadget charging wooden case myself and an i-Dog who is dancing on my desk right now.  The charging case is a cool way to charge phones and other small gadgets while looking very nice!  How about you?

  • Would this be the same charging case that GBM Warner talked about a few months ago? Or, a new possibly DIY wooden case? I’m curious because I’d love to find the plans to build one of my own.

While an HTC Advantage would have been VERY cool, especially since CompUSA had them for $630/no contract, Santa brought a DSLR (Rebel XTi) for Christmas.

  • I got Microsoft Streets & Trips 2008, which only qualifies as a gadget ’cause it came with a little GPS dongle. Finally, I know where I am!

I also got my girlfriend a lap desk, which I conveniently get to use while she’s at work. And I got a Slanket, which is kind of gadgety in that gives me full typing ability whilst under a warm, fuzzy blanket.

  • I’m hoping to find an HTC Advantage at the Cincy CompUSA (the Dayton store was sold out as of Saturday night so it’s not likely), but aside from that my only gadgets were Rock Band and an electronic trombone mute. My mother got a Garmin nuvi with all the fixin’s though, which only led me to want that Advantage even more!

  • I guess my i760 doesnt top the advantage, but still loving it none the less.

Anyone have any cool useful apps (prefereably free…I am in college still) to download?

  • I got a Targus bag for my Tablet, a Belkin Wireless USB Hub (yes, finally I can get rid of all those wires!!!), a web cam, and I got myself a Sony UX and pre-ordered the HTC Touch Cruise (can’t spend money for others without getting something for myself right?). Also got my girlfriend a 15″ HP Laptop.

  • Lucky me, the Cincinnati CompUSA doesn’t have a display Advantage to entice customers, you have to know about it and ask for them to get it out of the back, so they had multiple left. And now they have one fewer :)

    Merry Christmas/Happy Birthday to me!

  • Not a one! Instead, we decided to hit up the SPCA and give a home to a dog. Kelso, a 10-month old yellow lab arrives tomorrow, so instead of having gadgets all around the house, we’ve been hiding them all so they don’t get chewed up! Unfortunately, every time I hide our two cats, they find a way out, so they’re on their own tomorrow. ;)

  • A dog? Where do you stick the batteries for one of those?

  • I got a digital photo frame and a ASUS Eee PC.

  • Nothing techy for me this year.

Aside from my Voyager, which was half of a gift, and half of my responsibility to pay for, I received mostly gift cards, and some cash to pay for some vacations.

I plan on purchasing an iPod touch soon, however.

Glad everyone had a great holiday!

  • Nothing! It was awesome! I got a big ole leather biker jacket (it’s called a Brando jacket), gloves and specialized mask for cold weather riding. And none of it will have crashed, broken, run out of storage or need new batteries by tomorrow!

  • Wifey got me a clock radio I can dock my ipod in. It doesn’t sound like much but for my wife it was a miracle. She bought it all by herself AND it was exactly what I wanted. Yes, there is a Santa Claus.

  • OK, I’m a little slow on the uptake(’cause of holiday travel), but here goes!

The tech was crazy here. My 11-year-old son is a total game geek, so that sets the tone, for sure. Based on something he wanted, and something my wife wanted, we got something cool (which, secretly, I wanted!) and tech. We got a PS/3! It’s in one of my A/V cabinets, next to the Wii, Xbox 360, PS/2, and Gamecube… oh, and the N64! :) My son and wife have gameplay on their minds (And I have to admit Heavenly Sword, and the upcoming GT5 series, and continued Devil May Cry series, have my gaming attention), but I wanted it for the Blu-Ray player. Sure, I could have bought a Blu-ray player, but now I have one device that does twice the work (with appropriate firmware upgrades it even supports BD 1.1. To me, the coolest part of this tech is that it can interface with my son’s PSP. Talk about “technology WOW factor!”

Other than that, I got the latest Blade Runner complete Blu-ray kit. Very geeky, but very cool.

James: Loved your charging do-dad. That is awesome!

  • No tech gifts for me this year, though I did get some gift cards for Canadian Tire and Future Shop which will probably end up spent on gadgets pretty soon. I did get a small mountain of DVDs, including “Ratatouille” and the new “Casino Royale”.

I also got to meet my brand-new 6-week old niece. Awwww.

I gave Mom a portable photoprinter now that she’s experimenting with digital photography. And Mom, my brother, and I will be getting a GPS unit for Dad’s car for his birthday soon.
