No tech this holiday, but there was joy
I’ve been relatively quiet on the blogging front lately and mentioned that there were no gadgets for me this holiday. The reason why is shown above as we decided to give a good home to a dog this holiday. We hit up our local SPCA and rescued Kelso, the adolescent Labrador Retriever shown above. Needless to say for anyone that’s raised a dog before, we’ve got our hands full. I’ve had to move my home office down to the kitchen table to keep Kelso company. As if it wasn’t bad enough that he almost had no home this holiday, he’s forced to do the “lampshade on the head” routine: he had minor surgery and was chewing at his stitches. In any case, I’ll be getting back online more as Kelso allows. Although there was no new tech here, doing something nice for someone less fortunate is more than good enough this holiday time for me. Actually, the kids had plenty of tech enough to keep me happy anyway; configuring devices is a heck of lot easier to me than putting toys together!

Aw, pretty puppy. I’m a cat man, myself. And I think you mentioned cats in a comment. That dog better watch out!
Can’t wait to hear Kelso chime in on your podcasts!
Congrats on your new addition to your family
Just remember – you can never have just one dog.
We have quite a few rescued Husky’s.
Good for you and your family.
As the proud rescuer of two dogs from the local pound (one a black Lab mix and the other a, uh, well, something mix), nothing beats giving a home to another (living) creature.
Like acjif98 said, if I had the space, there would more. After awhile you start thinking of the other animals that were left behind.
Hi,
I just wanted to say thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge. I just read a post re: ipod library sharing that you posted 2+ years ago. VERY HELPFUL!! Thanks!!
..congrats on your newest family member!
Welcome to the world of male yellow Lab ownership. Let me tell you, they can be stinkers.
I used to have three Labs (yes, all at the same time), a black, yellow, and chocolate. Unfortunately, I have lost all three of them in the past two years and two months. The last two within the past two months. That was rough.
Give him lots of love. And if he keeps dogging your heels, just remember that he’s lab adoring you.
Hi James,
Well done on getting a recycled dog from the pound. That is one of the best things that people can do at Christmas – especially given how many new pets will be dumped by people over this period.
And a big thanks for running one of the few web sites that I view every day. The information and enthusiasm that you and Kevin impart on your blog is inspiring.
Have a great 2008!
Very best regards,
Jon Dee
Um, Jon, it is Kevin with the dog.
Good on ya, Kevin. Our lab mix was a rescue as well. She makes a great Avatar

Good on you Kevin, I have a black Lab and they are great fun and good loyal friends
Hi Kev,
Congratulations to your household! It’s an awesome thing you did by rescuing such a beautiful creature!
Enjoy the many wonderful (and sometimes challenging) years with your new friend. The unconditional love you will gain will make up for anything bad Kelso might do.
Good luck! … Oh, and buy a Ceasar Millan book or DVD!
Congrats Kevin, rescuing and taking care of an animal in need of a home is one of the most giving and honorable things a man can do in this world, and I’m sure you will be repaid many times over with Kelso’s love and devotion. Kudos to you.
Congratulations on your new addition. I adopted a 2 year old lab this year and she’s one of the best thing that happened all year. People who say you can’t buy love, never got a dog….talk about the gift that just keeps on giving!
We’ve got a big white Lab from our local rescue center here in Austin, Had him since our daughter was 6 months old (she’s now 4.5). They’re a great breed all around, and especially great with kids. Our guy also came home wearing the not very stylish hat. Hope Kelso settles in well, and I’m sure he’ll bring tons of joy for many years!
Kevin, I’m waiting to hear if you describe it as “minor surgery” if your wife suggests the equivalent procedure for you some day.
That’s true Scotty, I might describe it as something more “major” if I had it done to me. However, I can unequivocally say with certainty that if I did have the same surgery, I would NOT be wearing the lampshade.
Yeah, right! You’re really working downstairs to watch football on the Bravia.
