TechBlog- things that confuse Windows users who switch

Macs are not like Windows machines and anyone who switches immediately runs into a few things that are different that take some getting used to.  Dwight Silverman is a true bi geek who knows both platforms as well as anyone on the planet and he’s written a new article on TechBlog- 6 things that confuse Windows users who switch to a Mac that all switchers should read.  I haven’t switched but I do use both platforms every day, at least when I have a working Mac, and I run into these almost daily.  It’s a good read and one that shouldn’t be missed by you switchers.

  • One thing that would really help is if there was a way to bring windows up from the dock when you command-Tab to them.

That’s probably the biggest issue I’ve had.

I do like command-Q for quit a whole lot better than F4…

  • No, more like alt-tab to a running app that’s been minimized and it doesn’t pop up on the screen..

It’s just different and takes getting used to.

  • They didn’t mention my biggest pet peeve.

The action/cancel buttons are reversed. On the Mac, OK is on the right and Cancel is on the left.

You can always tell when a Mac person designs a Windows app or website. They don’t follow the Windows convention of OK/Cancel are backwards.
