HP H470 series offers mobile printing, with or without a computer
We’re often asked about mobile printing solutions, but these seem to be few and far between. This morning I stumbled across an offering from HP that I hadn’t seen prior: it’s their H470 series of mobile printers. There are three printers in the line ranging in price from $225 to $320. Each of the H470 printers are InkJet devices and print up to 22 pages per minute for black and 18 for full color. They can be plugged in, but can also accept an optional $79 Lithium Ion battery that’s good for approximately 450 pages on a single charge. You can add HP’s 802.11b/g wireless printer adapter for another $79, but the high-end H470 actually includes integrated Bluetooth. If you want to bypass the connection to a computer completely, you can print directly from a media card using the slots on the printer. These aren’t lightweight printers by any means as they start out at 4.5 pounds. However, if you need to print on the road and can store the printer in a car or other vehicle so you don’t have to carry it, these might be worthy of your consideration.

These printers would also be useful at athletic events such as 2K’s, 5K’s, Ironman’s etc…
I have the HP460 and it’s a spectacular printer, using same engine and 6 color inks Deskjet printers used, and output results are stunning photo quality from HP Premium Plus Paper while zipping out laser quality text pages.
Only the battery was disappointing, lasting under year with little use. I suspect longer life requires frequent cycles. It was amazing getting such flawless photo prints inside an auto interior. The BT works well, although slower and no feedback two-way for ink levels, etc. The wifi does, I believe.
Large size files process best using USB corded. This little printer has no problem cranking out 100MB 8×10 tiff files, not a trace of jagged, streaks or lines as trade off to accept from it’s size.
I have a Canon BJC65 also, while marginally smaller bare, once battery attached size differences shrink, while quality of output can’t compare. The HP460-470 printers produce truly desktop printer output, just slower and manual feed (it’s important to carefully guide 8 1/2×11 photo paper into short intake port).
This is best-in-class choice when print quality tops the list. I bought a $20 Sumdex large Inner case sleeve which holds the 460 with battery, extra cartridges and AC cords in 4×6 index card cases at bottom, and small paper supply inventory made exact fitted outfit.
I bought an HP470 printer and it only worked correctly for a couple of days. Now, I get a message that there is a problem with the color ink cartridge and it will not print. Can anyone help with this problem? thanks, Joe
