Old school goes new school: Palm apps on the iPhone, Touch
We’ve made note of StyleTap before; it’s the Palm emulator that lets you run thousands Palm OS applications on Windows Mobile devices. Two days ago, Matt Miller shot me a link to a video showing said StyleTap running on an iPod Touch of all things. Now it’s just an experimental version so don’t get ready to fire Blazer up on that iPhone just yet. OK, I kid about the Blazer part, but not about the experimental part. We’ll have to see how this pans out with the iPhone SDK, but can you imagine the ability to run tons of Palm apps on your Apple device?Assuming this does happen, what Palm software would you most want to run? This question serves a dual purpose since I’m still playing with the Palm Centro; you’ll give me some ideas of good third-party software I should be trying…

so is this just a tease or what? Access had released a demo of a palm emulator on a N8×0 that
had lots of potential with an official release of “end of December” well it is way past that an no actuall product. Now we see a simular thing for an Iphone/Touch “when the SDK is released maybe”
Vaporware or real products that we can use?
StyleTap won’t sell it if people have to — as they did — “jailbreak” their iPhone. I’d be nervous about doing that, plus it would be a PITA to have to do it every time Apple sends out an update.
When the iSDK comes out, we shall see.
So this will be a final blow to Palm? I’ve always thought there is a big overlapping between Palm and Apple users, and this might move more Palm users to iPhone land.
The Garnet VM (http://www.access-company.com/products/gvm/) is in public beta and is an actual usable product for the Nseries Tablets. It hasn’t been released as a full product release, but the beta is fine for the most part right now.
