Internet to speed up for three hours today thanks to Starbucks
Got some heavy downloading to do? I recommend kicking off those file transfers tonight at 5:30pm EST local time since every Starbucks in America will shut down for three hours. That means no Internet usage in the 7,100 Starbucks locations, which in reality is probably not even a blip on the world’s network. The closing is scheduled for in-store employee training, although part of me wonders if every store is getting a local copy of the iTunes store on a server. Just saying.
Folks can always go to Dunkin Donuts for coffee since they’re taking advantage of the downtime with a $0.99 coffee promotion. Smart move… now if they just had WiFi… Hey, this might be our first “coffee break” post about a true coffee break!

How much you think I can charge for sharing my EV-DO connection?
About DD… I’m in central Florida and just about every DD here has free WiFi. Not sure if its a corporate thing or an individual franchise thing, but I’ve gotten free WiFi in at least 20 different DD’s from Melbourne to Miami.
Hmm… I’ll have to check my local DD for WiFi now that you mention they have it in your ‘hood, A. Davis. Thanks!
Hmm. It’s 5:30pm LOCAL time, not 5:30 eastern. Oh, and no Dunkin Donuts here on the west coast (as far as I am aware; certainly their storefinder doesn’t find any within a 50 mile radius from Silly Valley), which isn’t a problem since there is a Peet’s Coffee not far from the Starbucks I was planning to visit at 7pm tonight.
My bad on the EST, Oliver; fixing now. In my defense: 5:30 EST *is* my local time and I haven’t yet had enough coffee today to get the brain operating at 100%.
