Rebates bring Samsung Q1U UMPC down to $699
Hector just informed me via e-mail that Buy.com has a slew of Samsung Q1U deals, many of which have a $150 mail-in-rebate. You’ll need to pull the trigger quickly however, as the rebate offer only applies to UMPCs purchased by the end of this month… just three short days away! The model he pointed out to me is the one with a 60 GB hard drive, 1024×600 native screen, split QWERTY thumb-board, Intel A110 800 MHz CPU and 1 GB of memory. Not a bad deal at all for $699 after rebate. Oh and it runs Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium… doable on this model, but I highly recommend you take some of that rebate money and invest it into a 2 GB memory module for your UMPC. Now if these devices originally hit the shelves at these prices, I think they would have sold like hotcakes. Thanks Hector!

They should try to get the Q1s down to eeepc price levels.
They should try to put a decent keyboard with it. Tiny, tiny thumbboards don’t sell well.
It is already sold out. sorry.
Buy.com often has a quick clearance sale like this; can’t say I’ve ever caught one before they sell out though. A while back they had the N800 going for something like $170 (for all of the hour or two before they sold out).
I was fortunate enough to get my Q1U-EL (800MHz, 40gb, no camera) when Best Buy was getting rid of their remaining in store stock for just under $400. I rather like the little guy, the thumb board is certainly not useful for typing a document, or any email over a few sentances; but it’s perfectly servicable for typing a web address, or entering simple data. A portable bluetooth or usb keyboard stashed away in a bag makes the device quite useful for just about any application one might use an ultra-portable laptop for in terms of traveling for business but with the added bonus of going without for more casual use.
Well, I must confess, I got the same Q1U-V with 1gb RAM, 60gb HD, both cameras, but no fingerprint reader, off Amazon for $849 with a $200 rebate. I pulled the trigger at something like 11:50 PM EST on the 29th (last day to get rebate). I am waiting for my 2gb RAm stick to arrive and the extended life battery. So far, after a few tweaks, I love it! At $649 it was hard to pass up.
