I’ve been asked to post a screen of Zinio on the P1620. Here it is:

  • Hi James,

This is truly a gadget with drool value! I saw one in Malaysia (likely a 1610) last year and wished I could sneak one through customs!!!!

Now, onto your screen grab – it is GREAT to see that you’re reading Macworld on your 1620! That’s the best part of Vista… the fact that you can read Mac magazines on it ;-) Just kidding PLEASE people, let’s not start a flame war!

However, I must just share how robust the Macbook Pro really is. Two weeks ago I was knocked off my vintage Vespa scooter by a HUGE 4×4 driver who came off the pavement and broke my leg in three places!!! Can you believe it?

In my backpack was my 15″ Macbook Pro – it got smashed in the accident (take a look at this link for a few pictures of the bent, smashed, and broken macbook pro) http://www.spirituality.org.za/2008/02/mac-is-back-replacement-apple-macbook.html

Amazingly, when I got out of hospital I connected the ‘boomerang’ shaped Macbook to my cineman display and it booted up and work perfectly!

Thankfully the computer has now been replaced with a new Macbook Pro… But boy, it sure gives one confidence in the Mac’s design that it can withstand being driver over by a 4×4 (even my body, and my vintage Vespa, couldn’t say the same).

    Keep up the great work!

  • James,

Is the 1620’s screen large enough to easily read a page of MacWorld without scrolling (you may have better eyes than I do)? I need to use a 20 inch Dell rotated to portrait to read a page of Science magazine with Zinio.I thought I was going to be able to display two pages in landscape with this display (which has the same screen area as Science or MacWorld) but my eyes can’t read Science comfortably, MacWord is not bad.

Agree with your comments about smallnote size computers. Cheap is a key word.I can justify five or six hundred dollars (well, its 60 or 70 yen for me in Japan) for a computer to use when I’m away from my home office. I wouldn’t even try to convince my wife that I needed a $1800 second computer.

    Cheers,

    Bob

  • Bob, I can read most any page in Zinio even if I have to zoom it a bit.
